Workout Recap 2/23-29

This week is all about recovery from the half marathon on Sunday…and I NEED IT!  I was sore for a solid 2 1/2 days from pushing my body more than it has pushed in a really long time.  I kinda hate to admit this but its been a very long time since I’ve been sore from running.  I have to say I’m also pretty glad this week is an easy week being in Atlanta and pretty exhausted from, well, everything an easy week was just what this body needed.

Tuesday:  Rest day but walk for 20-30 minutes.  Since I arrived in the largest airport in the USA (seriously, I looked it up) I took me 20 minutes to walk from my gate to the rental car place.  Check mark!  I wasn’t able to bring my foam roller with me so I did some modified stretching, hip opening yoga and spiky ball on my hip.  No pictures of this boring stuff, but I reunited with Amy tonight yay!!!

Wednesday:  Recovery run, 2.5 miles for 30 minutes which is a 12:00 pace.  My legs actually felt pretty good and the run was relatively easy.  Granted the treadmill at this hotel gym is ancient and not that great, but it served its purpose.  I watched Glee but still got really bored today 😦  For some reason my body was just exhausted today and when I got back to the hotel I just passed out, so no stretching other than what I always do post run.  Bad Rachael I know…please excuse the 2nd chin, trying to look like Audrey here but it didn’t really work out lol.  Geeze I look tired, wow…ok moving on.


Thursday:  Rest day with 20-30 minutes of walking, we walked around the mall because it was so cold outside!  Also…the ORIGINAL CHICK-FIL-A!!!

Friday:  Today I was all set to run 3.4 miles for 40 minutes…until I got to the hotel gym 3 minutes too late 😦  The treadmill had just been taken and since there was only one I had to use the elliptical.  I only did 30 minutes on the elliptical because it was basic…like only had a start button basic.  I made sure to keep my heartrate above 150 the whole time.  Sometimes you have to improvise when the hotel gym stinks.  Oh and no foam roller…so I haven’t been able to stretch this week 😦

Saturday:  I’m in Savannah today!  Its a 3 1/2 hour drive from Atlanta so I decided to make a day trip out of it.  I’m not sure when I will be back in Georgia so had to make the most of it while I was here.  While my training plan says to stay off my legs today that really cant happen because I’m walking all around the city (ended the day with 10 miles!).  Sorry coach, the wilderness needs to be explored! Ka-caw, Ka-caw, RAAARRRR!!!! (points if you know the movie!)


Sunday: I was scheduled for a 5 mile run today but I’m exhausted so I’m moving today’s run to Monday. I wasn’t going to be moving much today so definitely giving the legs a rest (driving from Savannah to Atlanta and I was going back to Houston today).  Gotta love airports with fancy restaurants that serve delicious hot chocolate and pastries.

Monday: 4.4 mile run at a 11:08 pace.  I went for this run a little later in the morning but the humidity was still around, boo!  I do NOT miss the humidity it just makes it so hard for me to get breath.  The run was uneventful but it was nice to run with the pups again.  15 minutes stretching / foam rolling that night, much needed!!!
